Looking Into The Past
Our journey toward locally led development is founded on the belief that Zambians should lead the decisions that affect their own development and progress. As part of the former USAID Zambia Localization Team, we played a key role in advancing a more intentional, inclusive, and locally driven development agenda by having approximately 20 local awards. In 2023, the mission directed nearly 30 percent ($77.3 million) of its total assistance to Zambian organizations and was well on track to exceed USAID’s global goal of channeling 25 percent of funding to local partners by 2025, with projections of $86.1 million (35 percent) in 2025 and $84 million (35 percent) in 2026.
Building local capacity for lasting change
Through our past and ongoing work, we have strengthened the capacity of local organizations, government institutions, and communities to design, lead, and sustain initiatives aligned with their priorities. By fostering long-term partnerships, promoting accountability, and building resilience, we contribute to a more self-reliant and sustainable world.
Looking Ahead
Our team at GIDS is committed to breaking barriers, promoting transparency, and strengthening local systems, with a strong focus on advancing economic governance. We work to enhance accountable, inclusive, and evidence-based economic decision-making that promotes equitable growth and responsible resource management. In collaboration with strategic partners, civil society, community- and faith-based organizations, local and traditional authorities, academia, research and evaluation institutes, and the private sector, we aim to build an inclusive, transformative, and prosperous future for all.
